The Consultation Meeting on the International Mangrove Center (IMC)’s activities convened at Shenzhen University on 15th April, 2025 Shenzhen China. Hosted by the Department of Wetland Management, National Forestry and Grassland Administration (NFGA) of China, and the Urban Planning and Natural Resources Bureau of Shenzhen Municipality, the meeting discussed on the development of IMC’s activities in strategic planning, international cooperation, demonstration site development, and mangrove conservation and sustainable development, and brought Chinese insights and solutions to global mangrove ecosystem governance.
The experts visited the Interim Secretariat of the IMC.
Mr. Mao Junfa, President of Shenzhen University, welcomed all representatives and mentioned about the university has made a series of important achievements in mangrove ecosystem conservation, wetland ecological restoration, and biodiversity research. Shenzhen University would like to take this opportunity to contribute to build a platform for exchanging knowledge, promoting scientific research and innovation, and strengthening cooperations.
Mr. Fan Xibin, the Director General of Department of Wetland Management of NFGA, China, summarized the achievements of recent years of the department, including the promulgation of the Wetland Conservation Law, and implementation of the special action on mangrove conservation. He hoped that the meeting could brought insights of all participants to assist the IMC in developing its future actives.
Mr. Bao Daming, the Director General of the Interim Secretariat of IMC, provided updates on the organization’s establishment progress, and . Experts engaged in in-depth discussions on strategic deployment, international collaboration, the development of Chinese demonstration bases, and the sustainable use and protection of mangrove and wetlands.
The meeting has charted the course for the development of the International Mangrove Center and provided a practical pathway for China's participation in global ecological governance. In the future, the IMC will promote international cooperation and joint actions in mangrove conservation, restoration and wise and sustainable use.
